Gulf of Suez Wind Farm II, Africa’s Largest Wind Power Plant, Begins Commercial Operation

2025.07.02

Eurus Energy Holdings Corporation (“Eurus Energy”) together with Toyota Tsusho Corporation (“Toyota Tsusho”) announced today that the Gulf of Suez Wind Farm II (capacity: 650 MW), Africa’s largest wind power plant constructed in the Arab Republic of Egypt (“Egypt”), has been completed and commenced commercial operation on June 30, 2025.

Located in the Gulf of El Zayt along the Gulf of Suez, the Gulf of Suez Wind Farm II consists of 84 wind turbines with a capacity of 6.0 MW each and 20 wind turbines with a capacity of 7.5 MW each, the latter of which are the largest-class onshore wind turbines in the world.
The Gulf of Suez Wind Farm II is operated by Red Sea Wind Energy S.A.E., a local operating company invested in by Eurus Energy, Toyota Tsusho, France-based independent power producer Engie S.A. (“Engie”), and Egyptian construction company Orascom Construction PLC (“Orascom Construction”). The generated electricity will be supplied to the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company under a 25-year power purchase agreement. The project will provide electricity equivalent to the power consumption of approximately 1,100,000 Egyptian households and is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 1,450,000 tons annually.

The Gulf of Suez Wind Farm I (capacity: 262.5 MW, commenced commercial operation in October 2019) is already in operation in the same area. With both wind farms combined providing a total capacity of 912.5 MW, we will contribute to the expansion of renewable energy sources and economic development in Egypt, supporting the Egyptian government’s policy to raise the portion of renewable energy generation to 42% of total power sources by 2030.

With the commencement of operations for this project, the power generation capacity of our group’s operating power plants has exceeded 5,000 MW, reaching 5,104 MW.
Under our corporate philosophy of “help preserve the global environment by disseminating and expanding clean energy technologies,” Eurus Energy will contribute to the spread of clean and low-cost renewable energy in Africa together with Toyota Tsusho and will continue to work on further expansion of wind power generation and contribute to global environmental conservation and the creation of a sustainable society.
